The second entry at the R.G.A. Stacking Contest is Mark Steere’s Monkey Queen.

Here’s a pict of the initial position:

Monkey Queen

Mark remarks about this game: "It occurred to me that architecture wouldn’t win the rec.games.abstract stacking game contest. Gameplay would. Do what every other designer does: focus on gameplay. Hence Monkey Queen is my first gameplay-centric design. "

Monkey Queen has been implemented on the Axiom Game Engine.

A stack of 12 checkers sounds unwieldy and precariously fragile. I would keep all but a few of the Queen’s checkers in a reserve area near the board.

Yes, good point, many stacking games suffer from the excess of manual dexterity needed to play them well.
Fortunalely Ed van Zon has agreed to make an applet before the end of the month, so that the game can be played without any distracting physical behaviour at mindsports.nl :)
