It seems desirable to me that this game is ended soon, in one or the other way. 2012-02-03 darse I’ve noticed quite a large disparity in playing speeds. In the Ewn rounds i’m playing, four players complete their first-to-3 matches in just a few days, while one player hasn’t even started, and will probably drag it out at one move every three days for the duration. Would it make sense to speed up the time control for the last games of a tournament? For example, have a pace of two days per move in the middle, and one day per move near the end? That would give the fast players a slight bonus, and more importantly, would give a nudge to the long tail-enders. A policy like that might only affect the chronically slow participants, and might see monthly championships end in a few months instead of nine. Surely those signed up for it will notice, and those not signed up for it can not do anything about it. If someone wonders when the last championship started, it is easy to find out. On the other hand, knowing that the last round finished and that the new one will start shortly is useful for those not signed up if they feel like getting ~8 new matches in that particular game, and those already signed up for it get a last chance to sign off if they do not wish to play the next round. 2012-04-07 Tasmanian Devil ★ I guess it is useful for spectators. :-) 2012-04-07 FatPhil Apologies if anything bad happens on this thread or elsewhere – today I’m coding a module for RoRoRo to automatically announce the start and end of each championship here. So, knowing one group or one game remains would let me decide if I want to participate in the next championship, or not. I have been registered here since 2003, and at times I have payed close attention to when the championships end and start. One would hope that if he’s doing his job properly, nobody else would need to post to this thread, but that makes him look like a spammer or some kind of wacky troll! Very quick suggestion – I could make him generate a webpage that shows the status of each of the champrionships, and maybe add an RSS feed for that page? 2012-05-21 mungo I like that the information is posted in this thread. I also like the information content, except for the “xxx has started” postings, as I don’t find them useful. Once a championship has started it is too late to do anything about it, and if I did register I will notice that it started anyway. The “1 remaining group”, “1 remaining game” and “has finished” postings are excellent. 2012-05-21 Hjallti I don’t think the ‘has started’ should be cancelled... it also says you don’t have to bother anymore. At the moment RoRoRo will only make one query to the championship page for each discipline. If there’s a winner for all of the groups but one, then he will make a second query into that group, and find out how many games are left. After that point he will only perform that second query. However, I’m thinking of more closely integrating the notifications with the predictions. And have him automatically perform predictions for all championships. Therefore the who is winning part could be integrated into that. I could make sure the RSS feed contains a slightly more punchy and informative subject line perhaps. A webpage with a summary of the information that is behind the notifications is certainly possible (with possible RSS feed for that too). I definitely see clear directions to progress in. Finding out would require another query on the server. In theory I could slowly suck that information and put real numbers in the place of the x’s, but I noticed today that there are some assumptions in the code which might break if I were to start replacing x’s with numbers. It seems back then he wasn’t remembering the date correctly (and 1970 is a placeholder for “unknown date”). The next time any of those changes state (when a group finishes), the date should be updated. 2012-08-08 duncecap Regarding possible bugs in RoRoRo’s generation of the summary page , Chess, Go/sunjang, Go 13x13, and Go/hahn are listed as having all groups done (Have I read that correctly? All brackets in those tourneys have zeros in boldface). You know the old draw-avoiding hack of “if you think no win is possible, declare it so, and if you're right, you win and get all the points”? How about “If a third party steps in and says 'no win has been possible for at least 2 moves', and that is true, then both players score zero”.
