Is anyone else interested in maintaining the FAQ? |

Hi Gang, A long time ago I updated and started maintaining this site’s FAQ. I’m real proud of the way it looks and the way it turned out – I think I did a good job on it and I’ve been happy to help maintain it over the past several years. However, I haven’t played any games here in a long time and I don’t log on as much any more. Thus, I’m no longer the right person for “the job” - I shouldn’t be maintaining the FAQ any longer. Someone else would now be able to do a MUCH better job on it that I could. It can even be said it is now selfish of me to want to maintain it. Obviously, you will have to host the files from your own website. I’m sure Richard will change the link from my site to yours, once you have it set up. Ideally, the new person will even improve upon it a bit, kind of like I did when I first took over. If more than one person wants to do it, maybe we can have a vote or something. I’m not going away entirely. I still plan on logging in now and then. I still love reading many of the forum topics, even if I don’t contribute to that topic myself. Golem’s players, as a group, are as intelligent AND as courteous as any others I’ve ever seen, in any and all other forums I’ve ever participated in. Ed Collins

Hey, you’re right... ten years next month. Thanks for the reminder! Hjallti, thanks for the great job YOU did, initially.

Many thanks for all the effort you put into maintaining it over the years, Ed. As network connectivity is part of my bloodstream, and LG is part of my day-to-day life currently, I’d have no problem taking over maintenance and hosting.

Ed, thanks so much for all your work on the FAQ. I first looked at it when I registered here, and since then I’ve looked at it at least once a week. It’s clear, well-written and engaging, and one of my favourite things about LG. It’s an incredible resource. Personally, I would be delighted to have FatPhil take over the FAQ. If other people are interested in doing the job, then perhaps we should have a vote and/or discussion. But as far as I’m concerned, I think FatPhil is the ideal person.

But FatPhil is from Estonia. Since the FAQ is in English, I think it would be better maintained by someone whose native language is English. Mwah, ha, ha, ha, ha...

THANKS Ed for all your great work and efforts!!! I also hope you continue being present here in the forum and in a couple of games frim time to time :) I agree, I think FatPhil would be excellent in taking over this important task. I support fully the selection of FatPhil as the new FAQ maintainer, even though that he might be from Estonia, Finland, England or somewhere else... ;)

Phil will do a GREAT job, I’m sure. FYI, ypercube also volunteered, if no one else wanted to do it. Phil, I can zip up and e-mail you the files. Or, you can simply copy the html file and each of the small graphic files yourself, directly from my page. (There aren’t very many of them.) Once your link is set up, I’ll continue to keep my page up but I’ll mention at the top of the page about it no longer being current and linking to your page. Have fun with it. And thanks to everyone, for your kind words.

wget didn’t interpret the javascript, and so didn’t suck all the logos/graphs: """ --2012-05-13 13:03:09-- http://www.edcollins.com/golem/rating-graph-‘;LastGraphName%20=%20’.gif Connecting to www.edcollins.com|69.65.27.133|:80... connected. However, it does add a bit of interest to the page. One of the nice things is that I can probably get RoRoRo to help maintain such dynamic content and keep it fresh. Without saying anything about my own ideas, I asked Anna for her input, and she came up with a whole host of suggestions – so there may be some significant changes. I’ll change everything incrementally, with full version control, so if there are changes that aren’t liked, I can revert them easily. However, having Ypercube ready to take over when I make a complete pigs ear might make sense ;-)

Yes, there are a total of... 20 rating-graph-xx.gif files 3 team-logo-a-x.png files 3 team-logo-b-x.png files 3 team-logo-c-x.png files 3 team-logo-d-x.png files 3 team-logo-e-x.png files 3 team-logo-f-x.png files 3 team-logo-g-x.png files 3 team-logo-h-x.png files which are randomly displayed each time the page is accessed. (Or refreshed.) It’s not much but I supposed it helped to keep the page looking a tiny bit different.
