Does anyone know what triggers the next round of the infinity tournament?

I checked a couple of players and all the games in each round seemed to start simultaneously at these points. So there are gaps of 11 days, 9 days, 14 days etc. This makes it look like there's no rule of the form “once every x days”. Maybe there is a rule of the form “when some percentage of the games of the last round / last 5 rounds / all rounds have finished” but of course this would be more difficult to spot for an end user. I wondered if anyone else had any ideas about this.

It said somewhere that a new round starts “about every two weeks” - so there's also the option of it being something that Richard has to manually activate. That seems unnecessarily complex, but maybe it was easier to code in back when Infinity came out, or something. Another option would be when a sufficient amount of games have been completed.

The frequency is much lower for slow games like go19. Not that this would answer your question, but it makes the picture a bit more complete.

If infinity tournaments for different games are starting at different times this makes it less likely that Richard is manually activating the start. If the frequency is much lower for games which typically take more moves to finish, this points towards it perhaps being triggered by a certain percentage of games in some set (last round, all rounds?) having finished.

I wish Richard would just tell us.

In the Morelli size 31 infinity tournament, the first round started 2014-12-04 11:11 (=: day 0), and the second round on 2014-12-27 18:36(day 23), before any of the three first round games finished, namely days 36, 43 and 130, if I calculated correctly. Round three started… on day 218. My guess is that something like the average length of games that finished recently is involved. Or maybe a random number generator.

Could a be you miscalculated with a year? 3rd round started shorly after I subscribed…. in 2016. 218+365=583?  With only to few players the are no new rounds?  so I triggered next round by subscribing?

Hjallti: Yes, apparently I forgot to add 365 days for a year. Actually it seems to be day 580, so that wasn't my only mistake. Let's see whether round 4 starts in 2016.

I think I read it's based on the fraction of previous-round games that are finished.

Something else. I withdrew from infinity games. Much to my surprise a couple of days later a new Infinity game started. Does this mean there is no possible way of withdrawing ?
