and to count them you would have to find user names from mostly tournaments, but what about other games

user names can change at any moment, so one player can appear to be more than one

Looking at some accounts I think the time limit is 1 year. Meaning that if you don't log in for a year you will disappear from the player list. Look for example at old tournaments and you can find players which you can't find in the list of players.

There are a total of 1977 players registered to different championships (not unique players), including variants. A total of 48 championship tournaments. This means the average numer of players are 41 per champinship.
