Reply to this topic Return to forumHello,
in October 2014, a bet-of-5 match in 19x19 go will be played
between top German player Franz-Josef Dickhut (FJ; 6-dan
amateur) and top bot CrazyStone.
The special thing is: no handicap; one game per week;
play in the comptuer room on KLGS server;
The human will get 500 Euro price money when he wins the competition.
Sponsor is the German software company codecentric.de
which also runs a blog on the event:
Cheers, Ingo.
Very interesting! Is there a precise schedule? I can't find it in the link. I guess it will be posted later.
Please, if someone knows update this thread.
I had a few typos in the original posting:
\* best-of-five (not bet-of…)
\* KGS server (not KLGS)
\* computer room …
\\\********************
On the schedule:
First game on October 04, second game on October 11, third game on October 18.
Start always at 16:00 CEST.
When we are lucky, there will be more than 3 games…
The sponsor has made interviews with both “players”. These
will be published in the blog, before the event starts.
Raymond-Georg Snatzke who is working for codecentric.de and is
running the blog, was my assistant between Fall 2000 and Spring
2005. He has written a doctoral thesis on Combinatorial Game
Theory structures in Amazons. Georg is a 3-dan amateur in Go.
Ingo.
Hello,
I just learned (once again) that my English is far from perfect.
Instead of “When we are lucky, there will be more than 3 games…”
I meant
“If we are lucky, there will be more than 3 games…”
Cheers, Ingo.
Surprise:
First round was won by the bot (CrazyStone).

Round 2 will be played on KGS server again.
Starting time: Saturday, 11 October, 16:00 CEST.
Ingo.
The humans got away with it once more after Franz-Josef Dickhut won the next three games which you can review https://go.codecentric.de/.
It seems Franz-Joseph (6-Dan) learned how to play Crazy-Stone efficiently. In particular it seems the bot wastes some time in MCTS when multiple ko are present (see Game 3).
Another strategy he used was to secure some territories in the 4 corners and in the middle and let Crazy Stone lead with influence and sente.
Crazy Stone was running on standard hardware and was handicapped in Game 3 by disconnexion problems.
To see how Crazy Stone sees influence during a game, I like this post-mortem analysis of an older game of Franz-Joseph against Benjamin Teuber : http://www.grappa.univ-lille3.fr/~coulom/CrazyStone/ingo/CrazyAnalysis-1.html.
More info about Go-Playing Programs ( http://senseis.xmp.net/?GoPlayingPrograms): DolBaram ( http://www.computer-go.info/db/oprog.php?a=DolBaram) beat Cho Chikun (9-Dan Black-Belt professional player) (http://senseis.xmp.net/?ChoChikun) but needed a four stone handicap to do so. Crazystone ( http://senseis.xmp.net/?CrazyStone) wast defeated even though it had a three stone handicap. I hope I got that right, it is late and I'm tired; my source: http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_640c2a6a0102vkm8.html{click to see the kifus (game recods)}.
