2,520 points in Game #163473

    Greetings,

I don't think you should be able to play against yourself in Golem's Word Game and make the highscore table.

I call your attention to bobby who played DROOLS against himself for 252 points in game #98342. (Note: A higher scoring play would have been to play DOOZERS for 864 points! This would have tied the current record!)

In another game against himself he also played IMPEACH, for 288 points. (Game #67751)

Both of these plays made the highscore table.

In both of these games he carefully set up the position by playing one tile plays prior to the high scoring word.

I'm not saying one shouldn't be able to play against oneself and have fun looking for words and making high scoring plays, etc. I'm not faulting bobby. However, I don't believe any such plays should be added to the highscore table. If this is allowed, then the highscore table becomes meaningless.

To prove this, I set up a game against myself. (Game #163473.) If we ARE allowed to play against ourselves and make the highscore list, then in the current position I could play CARBOXYMETHYLCELLULOSES and score 2,520 points! (Note: Since I'm using a wild card for one of the L's, this play would not be the highest play possible, which I believe is still 2,592 points.)

CARBOXYMETHYLCELLULOSES uses 23 tiles and would, of course, also shatter the record set for the longest word!

I'd like to see IMPEACH and DROOLS removed from the MOST VALUABLE WORD list. (Sorry bobby.) And if any other words have made the MOST VALUABLE WORD list (or LONGEST WORD list) because a player played against himself, I'd like to see these words removed also.

    Just my two cents…

I agree with ED. The highscore table is a nice feature that is being ruined by self-play. Such scores should be removed from the table and prevented in the future.

I agree with Ed and Scot.

Perhaps the easiest solution is to only recognise rated games when compiling the halls of fame.

That's what I though first, too. But it won't stop the guy who sets up a new false account and plays a rated game against his real account.
