this is not fair.

in the previous LG championship i played top league and finsihed dead last with 0 points. this achievement i think earned me the right to be relegated to the 2nd league. to my suprise however, when the 2nd LG dvonn championship started i found myself back in top league. this is not fair. i finished dead last the previous championships and i earned my relegation fair and square. i claim my right to play in 2nd league

The reason that you are still in the top group of the championship is almost certainly the fact that Steven Silver, Taral and Jan de Graaf withdrew from playing in the championship.

  • alkosan at 2003-08-19

if i had known i have to play the topleague again i would've withdrawn too

  • michael at 2003-08-19

it would be understandable if there were 4 withdrawals, that way the top 5 would include alkosan.

but as i see it, there are 6 players from previous first league, playing in this first league championship…alkosan didn't tie for '5th' place either, he ended '6th', looking at the system richard uses, posted in the hex forum, this must be an error…

I think that the withdrawal of a lot of people caused some problems for the compilation of the new championship. Not only did the 3 players I mentioned withdraw, but also the no 1 and 2 player of championship 1.2.1 and the no. 2 player of 1.2.2. As a result only 1 player got into the top level, and with 3 withdrawing, there was apparently no need to demote someone. The 2 remaining spots were filled with the 2 highest ELO players for Dvonn that were not yet in the top level and who signed up to play.

I tend to agree with alkosan's first statement. If one finishes last (or at the 4 last positions), one should be down a league. No matter if there are many withdrawals.

I can change algorithm for create groups, but how. What I can do, if in group is not enough (nine) players ??:

    1. put players on 6th, 7th,…etc position

    2. put players from 3rd,4th,.. position in 2nd league

    3. combination of them (6th from 1.league, 3rd from 2nd league, …

    4. add players according to rating

    5. nothing (there will be less players than 9)

    .

    .

    .

I suggest that you let those who came 3rd in second league to play in the first league, rather than letting the 6th-9th place remain in the first league.

The way the algorithm is now, it has happened several times that players who don't really belong in the first league remain there, while stronger players, who came on 3rd place in the second league, remain in that league.

In case a Championship group is too small because of people quitting, I think it would be best to (in this order):

    - promote no. 3 of 2nd level

    - leave no 6 and 7 in 1st level

    - add players according to ranking

If the top level group contains players that really did not belong there, they will have ended 8th or 9th and therefore always go down a level.

Sometimes, because of the number of players who don't complete (or even start) their leagues, there is no good answer.

In Go 9x9 5.3.4, three of the nine players had left Little Golem before the tournament even started. A fourth left soon after, meaning that no matter how badly any of the remainder of us did, we could not be relegated.

Then, at the end of the tournament, a 10 kyu player in what I believe was an obvious and one-sided victory accepted a losing score offered by his opponent. Perhaps it was a blunder, perhaps the stronger player was just tired of playing – I don't know. But the consequence is that there is a three-way tie for second place, including myself and another player about as weak as I.

There's no way I belong in the second league. Probably the only games I'll win are against players who don't show up. Though if I end up in the same section as the player who got the inexplicable win above, I may win one game.

I'll try my best, and probably learn something and have fun. But I don't think I'll provide the chalenge that the stronger players may be looking forward to.

    Strangeness:

That game, which had been marked as complete with the 'wrong' side winning, now has the previous “accept” removed, another score offered and accepted, and the right side winning.
