What about larger boards?
  • lazyplayer ★ at 2016-11-30

Hi all, I've a question for reversi community…

Why nobody plays larger boards, like 19x19?

Would the game become more interesting and perhaps less suitable for brute force approaches like that used typically by computers?

IMHO, a board larger than 10x10 makes for a rather dull (“grinding”) game. Diagonal control is an interesting aspect of 8x8 endgame that almost disappears on larger boards.

You could try Io. It's slightly larger and slightly more interesting.

10x10, here on littlegolem, is already very fun

I don't play Reversi, but just as a friend of the court…

There's no sense in even considering - in any game - what might make life tougher for a computer.

Because (a) it will happen anyway, and (b) it won't change anything of any importance when it does.
