I was lucky my opponent did not see the solution. White to play and win.

I’m pretty sure the puzzle is broken and there’s no white win. Some sample lines:

    counter to h8

    counter to i9

    counter to j8

  • Lukasz S. at 2016-05-18

If I was not sure, I woluld not resign. Black to win.

  • shalev at 2016-05-18

No, the optimal outcome of the top left corner looks like this, where white connects but black escapes all ladders.

  • JKB at 2016-05-19

Oh, I missed i9 for black. Well then I dont see anything for White

  • lazyplayer at 2016-08-31

    Here is the win: http://www.trmph.com/hex/board#13,a7e9j9j11l8j10h10i5d9e5j4l2b10b8g5e8d7d11d10e10c11d12b13g4c6c5d5e3f5f4h4e6f7e7g8g9k9j8i8i9h9i10g12h8i7i6k5j6k6j7

Guys, you should have some faith in David! :-)

  • lazyplayer at 2016-08-31

To be honest, j8 seems refuted by k7... i await for David to confirm the puzzle works before trying harder... :)

  • morphles at 2016-09-01

What about something like i1 ? Though possibly I’m a bit blind here and missing something obvious.

  • lazyplayer at 2016-09-01

white i1 -> black h3, typical newbie blind spot :)

  • morphles at 2016-09-01

Oh man that was lame on my part:). I’m not that noobish. First I checked i2 which that is not a problem, but for i2 f3 is bad. But on the second look i2, f3, h2 then not sure what is best for black e4? But to be fair I do not find anything good for him. Am I missing something?

  • lazyplayer at 2016-09-01

    morphles, http://www.trmph.com/hex/board#13,a7e9j9j11l8j10h10i5d9e5j4l2b10b8g5e8d7d11d10e10c11d12b13g4c6c5d5e3f5f4h4e6f7e7g8g9k9i2f3h2e4g1d2f1c4d4a6c3b4

  • Arek Kulczycki at 2016-09-02

    I agree j8 is refuted by k7

  • Arek Kulczycki at 2016-09-02

    I claim black win

  • David J Bush ★ at 2016-09-02

    I apologize for messing up.
