Visit in Germany
  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-04-27

It is possible to be in the week 9-13 May in Hamburg. Maybe I can meet a german Twixt player and play live.

  • David J Bush ★ at 2005-04-27

I'm not sure if all the German players read this forum. It might be worth your while to message them individually.

  • Tim at 2005-04-28

Hi Dan, several German players live in Hamburg. Unfortunately, I don't. Enjoy Hamburg, it's a great city!

  • technolion at 2005-04-29

    Hi Dan!

I live in Hamburg and would like to meet you! Maybe we can do a live game (I have a board Tim gave to me :)) in the park or a café.

  • technolion at 2005-04-29

BTW: At the moment I am in New York City. Is there any Twixt player here? I'll return to Germany on May 1st..

  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-05-03

Glad to find a player in Hamburg with which I played a lot here. I will ask again for the visit schedule and try to find a day to meet you.

  • bennok ★ at 2005-05-06

Hi, I use the opportunity of this thread to announce that I will come to Berlin next week. I might have the opportunity of meeting some Twixt (or Hex) players on Wednesday of Thursday.

    Any players there? :)

  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-05-09

Tom (tehnolion) can say: veni, vidi, vici.

He beat me twice on a real board. Well there are two reasons I did not won. One is that I had to let him win and therefore force him to pay the consumation. And if you don't belive this than you should belive that the board had no guiding lines that I could see. The ones with special ink were visible only to Tom.

    ;O)

By the way. I just discovered a swimming poll near my hotel and I spent last evening 2 hours and a half there. If anyone from Hamburg wants to play with me; we can set a meeting there this evening and play between two swimming sessions ;O)

  • Tim at 2005-05-09

Playing between swimming sessions … This would explain why TwixT is so slippery sometimes. ;)

As for the guiding lines, does anyone know whether the boards at the Mind Sports Olympiad have them?

  • Tasmanian Devil at 2005-05-09

At the MSO they use Kosmos sets that don't have guiding lines.

  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-05-09

BTW Tim, I got the greetings from you through Tom.

    Thanks

  • technolion at 2005-05-09

Dan and I met in front of Hamburgs 'Rathaus' and had a very nice breakfast and two games of Twixt. It was a fun meeting and I'd love to meet more international Twixt players!

  • technolion at 2005-05-09

BTW, guiding lines: I did *not* see hidden guiding lines ;)

But its a strange experience. You should try it on LG (set the board back to default). It's funny how heavily one depends on them.

After 3 or four moves the guiding lines are not that important anymore though.

  • ypercube at 2005-05-09

    Guiding lines? What guiding lines?

  • David J Bush ★ at 2005-05-09

yper, click on “login/new user” and then click on “edit user properties.” We refer to the eight diagonal lines which radiate from the corner holes B2, W2, B23, W23. They help a lot to give your eyes a frame of reference, so you can more easily see where you are on this huge grid.

I should ask the MSO people if such a board would be legal for their tournament…

  • Tasmanian Devil at 2005-05-09

I prefer to play without guiding lines.

  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-07-06

Ok; now I am in Munich until sunday. Maybe I can meet some twixt players here too.

Anyway since the forum is visited so rare, maybe monday some player from Munich will read this post. ;O)

  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-07-07

Change of plan. We solved the 3 day work in one night ;O). So we will leave probably Friday. Next time :D

  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-07-08

Here I am again. The flight tickets could not be changed. So I leave Sunday. Anyway since I am the only one that is writing in this post it seams that the Munich Twixt Player is a non existent or disapeared specie.

  • ypercube at 2005-07-08

    Check this and this site.

Perhaps you can find players for other games. You might learn a few new ones and maybe teach them twixt!

  • Dan Mircea Vasilescu at 2005-07-08

    thanks ypercube;

with the latest change of plan I will pray for few minutes to exit in the town.
