White has 5 pieces and I have only 3.  That seems a bit unfair to me…  What can be done about this?

While it may indeed be a bug, luckily your opponent, being “SYSTEM”, is used for BYEs.  As a result he/she/it will lose on time.  I have noticed that games against SYSTEM are more likely to have bugs in them…
