The 1st CYC Cup Connect6 Tournament just finished!! (Taiwan)
  • euhuang at 2007-04-17

On 2007/4/15 Sunday, in Taiwan the ThinkNewIdea Inc., owner of the CYC game site (cycgame.com), held the first CYC Cup Connect6 Tournament. There were 20 Level 1 players and ~30 Level 2 players joined this tournament. Each player plays 5 rounds by SWISS system. The Level 1 Champion is Lu, Wen-Yuan (nickname “ntcbman” on LG). On the same day, the Taiwanese Connect6 Association was formally founded, aiming to promote the Connect6 Game around the World. Professor Wu, I-Chen is elected as the President of this Association.

    hey euhuang

who other player of LG was in that tournament?

  • Andrey at 2007-04-18

    Always belived in ntcbman ;-)

As I know, the LG players who participated in this tournament include: ntcbman, jinjinlkj, euhuang, gadabout, clowread. There might be others but I don't know their nicknames. There are many strong players who do not have a LG account - many of them play Renju games as well. Meanwhile, Chen Chen-Kuo acted as the head of judges in this tournament.

Any online sourse about this tournoment?

  • euhuang at 2007-04-18

This tournament's website is www.connect6.org/web. And the result is shown on here. But as you can imagine, it is all in Chinese. However, shortly later, each of the Level 1 games will be posted on this site (Level 1 players were requested to record down each step he/she played). Then, even you don't know the Chinese lanaguage, you can see those games. Stay tuned…

Sorry, sorry, syntax error. The tournament website is www.connect6.org/web, while the result is shown here. Shortly later, each of the Level 1 games will be posted on this site (Level 1 players were requested to record down each step he/she played). Then, even you don't know the Chinese lanaguage, you can see those games.

Any chance that this site (cyc) makes an english interface?

And until that, could anyone help me and show a way to register and how to play games there?

Nice news, euhuang, good to hear there's still some action. And congratulation to ntcbman, he's indeed very good real-time player ;)

There is question about rules. What is correct way of placing stones at the board in real tournoments? There are variants: two stones are placing consecutively with one hand without any pause, or you can place one stone and after some thinking finished move with second stone or other way… Euhuang, Chen Chen-Kuo-head of judges comment please. Describe fully this process. Maybe you have these regulations for real tournoments somewhere online in written form(only in english can be usefull of course). Thanks.

In last year's NCTU C6 tournament, there was a 5-second restriction rule on the time interval between placing the 1st stone and placing the 2nd stone of ONE move. In this year's CYC Cup C6 tournament, this 5-second restriction rule is removed, i.e. the players can have as much time as she/he needs to place the 2nd stone after the 1st one is placed, unless her/his time is up. However, once the 1st stone is placed, it cannot be removed or moved to other place. The reason why the 5-second restriction is no more applied is because (1) it is difficult for judges to monitor the 5-sec interval and also difficult for players to detect whether it has passed 5 seconds or not; (2) it is fair because both players can see the 1st stone (the one who places the 1st stone can see the his move clearly instead of imagining in his mind, while his opponent can start to think and save some time even with only half of the information.)

Nevertheless, there are chances that after a player places 1st stone, then before he places the 2nd one, his opponent mistakenly places his 1st stone of next move. This is a violation of the game rule. Whether or not this violation will cost the game is still debatable.
