Cant there be both an 6 by 7 board and also an 8 by 8 board?:-)(like Go has 3 board types)

  • Stackoholic (Retired) at 2004-09-27

Yes ! But they have different strategies and different results (in the 6x7 board the 1st player always wins) :)!

ok, thanks for answering my question:-)

I think it would be nice to have several boards too. 6x7 - 8x8 and 10x10.

  • Stackoholic (Retired) at 2004-10-06

Well … the 6x7 board is already solved so .. there is no point playing it. The 8x8 board is not solved yet but as far as I can see … the second player to move always wins (if he can play without mistakes). Wow … I have never seen a 10x10 borad !!! Did you ?!?

    I haven't seen a 10x10 board, but there is an 8x10 board at atlanticchess.com.

Check this site : www.puissance-4.com, but you'll need a 'sponsor' to suscribe. Tell me if you're interested, this is a french site.

I agree with Stackoholic that playing 6x7 is pretty silly. For another interesting variation, check out www.tothegames.com, an all around great site where they have stack4 6x9.

  • metaldragon at 2004-10-23

yes, i play at that site, its very interesting.

10x10 would be very interesting ….. i wonder if red would have the advantage again like in 8x8 (although it's not that easy to win ) , i am sure it would be alot tougher .. 6x9 is a nice one too …. also the stack4x4 (see it'syourturn.com) that one would be a cool variation

    Hmmm… 10x10… maybe at http://gamespark.com/game.php?fourinarow

I've compiled some information about various board sizes at http://fourinarow.50webs.com/boardsizes.html
