Reply to this topic Return to forumI haven't been active on this site for a long time, but I find that apparently for some reason I was included in these “default” tournaments, in which most games have ended with 0 moves (perhaps because most participants, like me, didn't know that these tournaments existed). Does anyone know what's going on?
Apparently, all monthly cup winners during any given year play a final tournament for that year.
These “default” tournaments were started this year, about a decade after the monthly cups happened. (Also, they use a 9x9 board, which didn't exist at the time of the monthly cups). I haven't played in any monthly cups since 2007, so hopefully the site isn't going to automatically enroll me in any more things.
The “DEFAULT” portion of this refers to the fact that it is the default variant of fir and not some other variant. (I suspect there are no fir variant, but for example, EWN has “black hole” as a variant).
The new DEFAULT FIR monthly cup for 2015 just caught me by surprise. My 'punishment' for winning a few monthly cups a few years back. TO MY FELLOW PLAYERS: Sorry folks. Nowadays, I just do not seem to be in the right frame of mind to compete in ANY internet games. I guess this happens to a bunch of people, and it has happened to me. I think that I shall play games again in 2018, but not during the rest of this year. I gave it serious thought - being completely outclassed rating-wise by most of the other entrants, it might have been cool to play, just this once. But NO, I shall not. I won't let my games sit and time out; I will resign them as soon as I see them. I hope that there are enough players remaining to enjoy the tournament!
