There is blatant computer use/sockpuppetry used by some players, but there are some very good players on this site that are able to win offline competition. Try not to be overly cynical most players on this site are not perfect bots or using computer to play for them and will make mistakes. Remember that the quality of play will be higher than real world even without factoring in some people using machine assistance as you can spend as long as you need to analyse a position.
Oh and before you get upset that someone has played a weird word that you are convinced could only have been found by a computer find some games from the scrabble world championships, which is played in realtime so using asistance is impossible and you don’t have long to play each move as you have 25 minute for the whole game as opposed to days for 1 move! Plus when you do have a wrong move, this site tells you it is not in dictionary so you can try something that you think might be a word and lose nothing if it is invalid.
