In this tournament everyone plays everyone (in the same round robin) in all games, both colors! Everyone can join!

I started an inquiry for the second monster some time ago.

22 players listed below are at this moment indicating to participate but everyone can.

Some of them also answered some questions regarding the setup.

The main question seems to me:

Will you participate in the monster using the following setup?

3 rounds where the 7 playing finalists (and maybe also the 8th) are playing the second round automatically (get a 'bye' for the first) and the defending Monster even automatically the final.

1st round: 4x a round robin

3nd round: 3x 5-player round robin (7 finalist Monster1 + 4 times top2)

final with 7 (Monster + 3 times top2)

(((If we end up with 30 players and 6 former finalists and the monster (ff's) this would create:

4x a 6 players round robin

from which we get 8 top2 players + a lucky looser (highest % and not in top2)

Together with 6 ff's we get 15 players in the second round:

3x a 5 player round robin )))

1x a 7 player final.

Determinantion of the line up (draws/pairings) for each round robin:

a ranking is made with all elo-points of the featured games.

The top4 players are put in different rounds, the next 4 as well, and so on and according to the next two principle (in order of dominance)

1. No two players paired in the first round of the first monster are paired again.

2. the sum of the places in the ranking is almost equal in each round (meaning that 1-8-9-16, 2-7-10-15, 3-6-11-14, 4-5-12-13 is likely if it satisfies the first condition)

Rules for each round robin:

Every player plays every other in each game (except Empathy) with each color.

The result of each game counts for points as follows:

a win in go is 4, a draw 2 a loss 0

a win in reversi of hex is 6 a draw 3 a loss 0

a win in other games is 12; a draw 6 a loss 0

in streetsoccer a game in extra time (move 53 is played) is considered a draw for the monster tournament.

The order is made based on these points, and in case of tie on the SON (as usual).

The best two players of a round robin continue the next round.

Each round start in 3 parts, some 3 weeks apart. Which games to start will be announced in proper time, but the order will be that of the final of the first monster.

I can make stuff with results as in 1st Monster (summary page, retrieving results, eg). I would appreciate, if someone (ypercube and/or Hjallti or …? ) would make pairings for each round and retrieve game numbers for each round.

i think i am going to withdraw. in reality i do not have the time to devote to

coping with a whole bunch of strange new games. already i am closing down on the games i cant really play, to devote more time to those where i see some improvement. i think to have to play 2 games of each type, just because of the colours, when most games seem to have a system to equalize first move advantage, is ridiculous. it is this that makes me realize that i am not up for this level of commitment here

I would like to participate also….

I'm in too. Al last 'go','hex' and 'reversi' players won't have so big advantage :)

Ray is not a go nor a hex nor a reversi player and he has almost won the 1st Monster tournament :)

Marius (a hex player) will probably be 2nd.

Me (ypercube, which started as a hex player) is surely 3rd.

miuek (very good go player which is also excellent in Amazons and Breakthrough and other games) will be 4th.

Robin and klaashaas (Reversi players) will probably take 5th and 6th positions (or maybe 4th and 6th).

Eduard (a go player) took 7th.

That makes Ray and miuek (two players with their best playing skills not in go, not in hex and not in reversi) at places 1 and 4 of the first Monster tournament.

Perhaps you'll say that the go and hex and reversi players had a good advantage to pass to the final round. But there were a few very good at go and hex and reversi players that played at the preliminary round and these skills were not enough (passenger at hex, Andy at go, Smaughster and Dom at reversi).

Sorry, I had unexpected complications in both profesional as private real life and I will not be able to spent time in both organizing as playing in the second monster. So I am out. I apologize for this, and I hope someone picks up the tournament and it continues. But if it does it will be without me.

I guess if someone takes over they should as ask by message everyone on the list if they are still in, and ask in a new topic if others as well want to play. But it is up to whoever finds time to do it, to do it.

I am volunteering to organize/direct the second monster championship. I am starting two new forums. The first is labeled “Second Monster Tournament Format”. In that forum I have laid out the proposed procedures/format of the tournament. Please discuss all procedural issues in that forum. It is my goal to finalize the procedural issues no later than November 30, 2007. The second forum I am starting is labeled “Second Monster official registration”. Anyone who wants to register for the tournament must add there name to the registration list in that forum. Because of the lag in time getting this tournament off the ground, I would to start registration all over from scratch. So if you want to play in the second monster, you MUST officially register in the forum with the heading “Second Monster official registration”

The deadline to register is December 7, 2007.
