Reply to this topic Return to forumHow do you proceed in Go when the players cannot agree on the death of groups? Is there a way to go back and continue playing?
I'm referring to game #2191541, the large black group in the center is eyeless, but two white groups around it have one eye each. It looks like a semai When my opponent passed, I presumed he was conceding the game.
It look like your opponent can kill one of your group with one eye with just one move (with snapback). So most of white stones are just dead.
To me it looks like the Black counting is accurate. All those White stones are essentially dead.
To answer your question though, yes, you can try and play the game (and simplify it by taking dead groups or those each opponent thinks are dead. Just play a move instead of “Count”. You can also add a message to your opponent that you would like to play a few more moves.
You will sooner or later realize that most of your groups are dead. To be honest, many of them are not trivial. I guess your opponent's real strength is much higher than his rating.
I still don't see it. Yes, there are dead white groups, but the central black group only has 5 liberties. White can sac some of the peripheral segments as needed, it seems I can win the race to capture.
Doh! [headplant]… Never mind, I think I'm losing it. :) Yeah, White is massively dead.
Thanks.
