but, what's with the ratings? [7k]???

  • Oakmoss at 2023-04-14

The k stands for kangaroo. Your rating is a measure of a hypothetical player who knows how to play perfectly but is being distracted by a certain number of kangaroos as they try to interrupt the game.

  • SOLFAREMI at 2023-04-15

I guess k stands for Kyu and d for Dan, like in go. Don't forget this site was primarily designed for playing go…

  • richyfourtytwo at 2023-04-15

That kangaroo explanation sounds very convincing to me. But some people have a 'd' instead of a 'k'. What does that stand for? Also, doesn't this give an advantage (or is it a disadvantage????) to Australian players, who are more used to seeing kangaroos?

  • Wickedestjr at 2023-04-15

I'd always wondered what those letters meant and now it makes a lot of sense. Sometimes when I learn a new game, it feels like I'm being hindered from perfection by 20 kangaroos…

The D stands for “Drugs that enhance gaming performance”. For each D (1d, 2d, 3d, etc, all the way up to 9d) this represents the level of an already good player but who is taking that many drugs to improve their gaming abilities.

  • Oakmoss at 2023-04-18

The d explanation makes sense. I wonder… maybe we should give the kangaroos some of the gaming drugs and see what happens. IF it goes well–however we define 'well'–we can give them an account, say it's a bot, and see how long it takes anyone to notice.
