RoRoRo can't. I perhaps could, but I shan't unless such comments imply results of games still in progress. However, I will certainly congratulate kyle for his many many wins in this tournament, especially against the two top seeds.

Yes, my comment did imply that kyle has a sure win in one of his two remaining games. Comments like this one, for a game in progress may seem inappropriate, but this is the top league.

I'd guess that one would not mind a comment in a chess agme between Fischer and Karsarov if a mate was imminent (2 or 3 moves ahead). Nor would anyone mind a comment on a Dots game where the running score is 13-9.

If a dots score is 13-9 then the game is already over. But even grandmasters miss easy mates when time is short (and 15 years ago I would have been able to give examples, but now I'm too rusty).

In the very top chess games, the resignations typically tend to occur long before mate in [small number]. I think that in at least one of kyle's games at least, and for that matter at most, one participant should be considering resigning if they aren't having an in-game conversation that they don't want to terminate early (which I often do).

Yes of course, *but* 15 years ago I would have been able to give you several specific examples of grandmasters missing mate in n<=4 in a time scramble. That was my point. What I'm hinting at is that I personally think that yper's comment is mildly out of order, and it's not the same as being 13-9 down in a dots game, because in a parallel universe Richard programmed the server here to record the game as a win the moment someone got 13 boxes, and the game ended on the server at that point. Of course in that parallel universe we'd all be enjoying the next dots championship by now…

OK. It's more like a 12-9 game where the player with 12 is sure to get a 13, unless he blunders for the next 3 moves …

And time scramble in Golem is rare i'd say :)
