Solutions to your endgames
  • zwack at 2012-08-13

I've been trying to decide what to do with “Sybil's”:http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/info/player.jsp?plid=24333 endgame databases. But until I've got that figured out, I thought I'd open them up to anyone interested. If you've got a position from a game here on LG that you'd like to see the solution to, post the URL to the position (like, say, http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/game/game.jsp?gid=1395745&nmove=61 ) up in this forum and I'll ask Sybil to reply with the winning chances (given perfect play) resulting from each possible move.

Sybil can handle any position with 7 pieces or fewer. Please no games still in progress…

Did I make a wrong move here?

I can answer the question. It is “yes” but probably not where you think. :)

    Strange.
Did someone manipulate the address I had entered?

Here is the position I mean:

This is a chance of 2/3 for capturing the 3 as well as 2/9 (11,1%) for both other moves, no wrong move here, I think, how close am I to the perfect chances?

  • YHW at 2012-08-14

    Sorry, I meant 2/9 (22,2%)….

  • sybil_c at 2012-08-14

Spot on, YHW. Blue wins 2/3 of the time he takes the 3 and 2/9 of the time he doesn't.

  • YHW at 2012-08-16

That was not too difficult, just a maximum of 2 moves to win that game, but let's try a 7-stone-situation, what about this one:

    http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/game/game.jsp?gid=1465918&nmove=159

Where to go with what stone?
In retrospective, I think, it would have been better to move the red one in diagonal direction…?!

Red chances of winning after each of the following moves:

    1/c2-d2 – 27.6%
    1/c2xc3 – 44.6%
    1/c2-b3 – 45.4%
    5/b3xc3 – 45.5%
    5/b3-b4 – 30.1%
    5/b3xc4 – 36.5%

    Pretty close, either way.

So I chose the worst of the three meaningful opportunities ;) Thanks !
