There is a shorter path through the diagonal which is also 36 times more probable than your detour ;)More seriously, why prefer taking the 5 on 1st move instead of the 3 (I tend to favour taking 3 and 4).

I prefer taking the 2 and 5 on the first. There is a slight difference in the possibilities afterwards, But I don't remember it, and have no time at this moment to redo the math :-)

And to pick at another nit.  When you use the corner square, it is only 7 moves, not 8.
