KaTrain with KataGo: easy-to-use, incredible AI
  • add3993 at 2020-07-14

One of the problems with post-AlphaGo AI is that most of it either involves neural-net weights not available to the public; or if public, is difficult for an average non-technical person to install.

But, KataGo is publicly trained AI whose latest incarnation may be the strongest of all bots yet; and KaTrain 1.3.x is a really easy to install and use packaging of the latest greatest KataGo.

It plays fast by default (at least with a compatible GPU) and gives move evaluations.  I only wish it had some cosmetic options and that github was not the principal download site (as it can intimidate people).  But anyway, this sets the gold standard for public-facing AI software as far as I'm concerned, and I anticipate playing more Go now that it's available.

The latest versions of Lizzie now include both Leela Zero and Kata Go engines.
