a question about the sanrensei
  • pitirre at 2003-11-18

when one plays the sanrensei anf the opponent moves with a kakari INSIDE or between of 2 point stars (especially with a keima) which is the best play for the sanrensei player?

im asking because i have a book about fuseki but they dont explain that position in the sanrensei…and guess what, somebody play it to me. so i treated the position like i was playing the chinese fuseki.

I would attach and extend to the 6-4 or 6-3 point .

The other player gets a heavy , overconcentrated group,

    without eye-shape.

I agree with the above - which I think means:

    1. black sanrensei

    2. white knight's move inside the sanrensei

    3. black attaches to the white stone, playing a move diagonal from the star-point stone

    4. white extends one stone towards the center from his stone

    5. black playes either one-space jump or knight's move from the star-point stone.

This results in somewhat secure corner territory for black, and two white stones without enough space to make a base on the side. Black should be able to make a wall the works with the other star-point stone while attacking the white group.

    ok.

that was the same thing whAT i did.

i just thought that there was a play that solidify the idea of the sanrensei of outward influence, like attaching but at the outside
