The top 10 answers were the same in the first two games, although in a very different order. The choices changed very slightly this time (USA was passed by Times Square), so Elisa and i missed a perfect ten.
MarleysGhost shared the win last time by repeating the top 10 answers from the first game, but he didn't do the same thing this time…
RoRoRo the Bot would have tied for first place again – in the same category!
(RoRoRo looks for repeats, and if found, submits the top 10 previous answers).
It would be a nice feature to automatically reject an expression that is on a tabu list of previous games. (Or, as mentioned in another thread, to allow users to flag repeated topics).

Oh My… Darse, HOW did you find the old answers… I was dissapointed when the 'past games'page was 'cleaned', but this post shows there is hope!
-
darse at 2012-02-04
They were sitting there all along – they're just not pointed to from the last 60 games summary page.
ypercube pointed that out, enabling me to do much more comprehensive stats on past games…
-
darse at 2012-02-04
BTW, if any of you “oldtimers” happen to know what happened with game 110, i'd really like to know, for sake of completeness.
-
Elisa Kabiljo at 2012-02-04
As I remember, there was a big server crash, and some games are lost, more than 10 (they are known as “lost games of empathy”, you can read about them in old forum posts). You can see big gap in starting date of games 109 and 111. When restoring a server Richard obviously missed game number 110.
-
darse at 2012-02-04
Ah, so the gap was actually more than one game then. Thanks for the clarification.
-
slaapgraag at 2012-02-07
Webmaster, wouldn't it be a good idea just to split the past GOE-games - all of them - in some subpages, so eveyone has access to the old games - and the loading time is not too long?
-
Elisa Kabiljo at 2012-02-07
I think that Richard will not spend much time for game which play 20-30 players. :-(
But everyone have access to old game, just type:
http://littlegolem.net/jsp/egame/egame_detail.jsp?egameid=1
where egameid is game number.
“Hiding” old games is bad idea. We now play repeated topic more often, only we don't know this. True thing is to eliminate repeated topic from tomorrow games Expressions.
-
darse at 2012-02-07
I could post a list of past topics (mined by my scoring program), so that anyone can look for repeats more easily.
I just don't want to harm the game in any way, so i need to know if people think that would be a good idea or not.
If there is a consensus, i'll post the list; if there are valid objections, i won't. Thoughts?
-
slaapgraag at 2012-02-07
I'm in. I think repeats are part of the game now, so everyone should have equal access to repeated topics. 'Nevertheless, the 'flag' idea might work.
-
MarleysGhost at 2012-02-07
Systematically checking past games for a repeated topic is one practice that separates the serious Empathy players from the casual players.
-
darse at 2012-02-09
And so is MarleysGhost, based on recent games… ;-)
I didn't want to say anything during the games, since it is bad etiquette to have any discussion of a game in progress, but now i'll say:
category: chocolate

http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/egame/egame_detail.jsp?egameid=755
Which explains the three-way tie for first in the last two games… (wojtex and Elisa go way back).
It isn't very fair for me to have an easy look-up of past games when others don't. Since there are no strong objections, i'll post a list of past expressions, so that people can do a look-up more easily.
[I didn't have any information for “mountains”, which i won anyway. Not doing a look-up for “Disney Characters” cost me big though – i changed “mickey” to “tigger” at the very last minute, but could have tied for first (with a perfect score) if i'd seen the results of game 473… :-/]

I guess i could have just pointed to mongoose's time machine page for the first 601 games:
http://www.tavislee.com/goe/timemachine
The links are all “file not found”, but the list of topics is useful. He also highlights the repeated categories. [There is also a picture of the sock puppet for game 156 (the original is now a dead link).]

Seriously, I thought that Richard “hid” the past game so that repeats could be played without having to copy past answers. This thread is spoiling it. If you want to copy a list of words instead of thinking, please do it, but don't try to influence other people vote by bumping this thread!
(This is not a big deal, I know that some people will disagree with me, no need to answer me, I won't complain anymore if this thread is bumped again anyways)

Paul, the discussion is not new…. No-one likes repeats, but I think if a repeated topic is to be played, still the point of the game is to get as many points as you can….
