Championship mistakes at the elite level?
  • Gordon at 2005-04-27

In the finals of the 4th championship – the top two players (Albido & Peter R) played game #198774. Didn’t Peter R miss a critical cut-off on move #60. i3-i2 seems critical to me.

I'd be interested in analysis by 1800+ players of specific moves in past championship games in the premier league.

According to my program (the stable version, lookahead 8 moves):

    e1e2 -0.09 (best?)

    d1e2 -0.36 (played)

    i3i2 -1.14

It seems reasonable to say that i3i2 surely isn't better. Dvonn is an extremeny aggressive game. i2i3 is surely a good move but only when no more moves exist that put more 'force' upon the opponent, OR not earlier than the opponent gets the luxery to prevent i3i2.
