Dvonn practice program
  • Jan C. de Graaf at 2003-04-17

This weekend I will release my Dvonn practice program. With it you can replay all your games, save them, load them. Undo and Redo are also possible.

The executable is small, smaller than 100kb, but you do need the MS .NET runtime installed which is a big download of almost 25mb…

I'll post the download address for the executable here later. You can prepare yourself by downloading and installing the MS .NET runtime in advance using http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en

    Have fun with it!

I've gotten some bug-reports that really need to be fixed:(

I'll try to get it ready today (21-4), but won't promise anything!

Okay, 25mb's have been downloaded and installed! I can't wait to meet my new training pal! :-)

  • XanderN at 2003-04-21

You are always welcome to train by playing me. ;-) Here or in realtime at BSW (BrettSpielWelt).

hmm 25mb downloaded in one minute cool :D

  • Jan C. de Graaf at 2003-05-12

    Download the updated dvonn.zip for:

    - slightly clearer graphics

    - Automated download of LittleGolem game!

  • Jan C. de Graaf at 2003-05-14

Don't forget to donwload the MicroSoft .NET Framework first!

  • Jan C. de Graaf at 2004-03-18

New version has been uploaded. The evaluation is slightly better (yes, it learns!). The speed has been improved significantly, being able to search 1 or 2 moves further ahead in the same time, especially in the crucial late midgame. Further speed-wise improvements are underway…

    Nice program, Jan!

I've added DVONN to my little conversion program for IYT/LG Go & Reversi games; you can now paste LG's DVONN games (txt format) into the tool and convert them to JdG's .dvn format.

Automatic download is easier, but if you're behind a firewall this also works pretty fast.

  • Jan's program (W:297,L:86,D:6) at 2004-05-13

Great Marc! I've actually though about implementing it straight into my program but didn't 'make' time for it:) Working on the A.I. is so much more fun!

    > but you do need the MS .NET runtime installed

UGH! Is anything in the works that will not rely upon bowing down to worship Bill Gate$ and Micro$oft? Perhaps something that is platform-independent and will also run on Linux or MAC? Your program sounds wonderful, but I wouldn't consider any such program worth poisoning my PC. :-(

  • Jan C. de Graaf at 2005-04-08

I think at the current state of development of Rotor or Mono, you should be able to run my program on linux as well:)

    Hello Jan,

is there also a program for Windows XP,

or do anyone know a page, where it is.,

    can?t download your version,sorry

    Groeneveld

  • Kd Hoffmann at 2006-04-24

    Hi groeneveld,

    I just did this:

    1. Download the dvonn.zip further above in this topic

    2. Unzip dvonn.zip resulting in a dvonn.ekse file

    3. rename dvonn.ekse to dvonn.exe (maybe this is the tricky one :)

    4. doubleklick dvonn.exe and it was starting in my case (having Windows XP AND the MS.NET environment installed)

    5. I haven't checked it out yet - but it IS startable :)
