koen experiment
  • Nevermind at 2008-09-15

I wonder what is koen's point in signing up for mc tourneys one after another and then resigning after three moves in order to lose points. Any idea?

  • Ray Garrison at 2008-09-17

when he was around 2000 he told me that he was going to try to lose rating points to the 1500 level then see how long it takes him to get back to 2000. However, he hit 1500 quite some time ago, so not exactly sure what his crazy idea is, but I suspect he will come back strong at some point…

  • ypercube at 2008-09-18

Perhaps he wasts to set a new (bottom) record?

  • Nevermind at 2008-10-25

Not really. He loses to 1500-1600 level players deliberately, one by one, thus bringing down his ranking to 1400 and this way he/she can victimize players with 1800+ rankings. This is a very mean approach, I would call it unfair play.

  • FatPhil at 2008-10-26

There would only appear to be a personal gain by so doing if he has a sock-puppet which he doesn't lose against (or doesn't play against). Otherwise it's a pretty pointless thing to do, and, as Nevermind says, is unfair to those whose ratings are a fair reflection of their ability (as the expected gain from playing is no longer zero, but negative instead) and who care about the game enough to have developed some expertise.

Even as someone who gains, I can't say I like it one little bit.

  • wccanard at 2008-10-26

Speaking as someone who really wants to get to #1 in the dots and boxes rankings, the thing I fear the most is new players coming along who are very strong and end up playing me in a m.c. round 2 before their ratings are anywhere near what they should be. Even if you can see them coming (for example I knew flipster from another site before he appeared here) and even if it's not their fault (flipster couldn't appear here and automatically be ranked 2000, he had to start at 1500) it's still a huge amount of pain (thinking very very hard about a game) for very little gain (just a couple of ranking points) **at that point**. Fortunately the problem soon goes away (flipster has a very high dots ranking now). But for someone to start doing it to other people “on purpose” seems very unsportsmanlike to me!

I have been playing 3games with koen, one of them isn't finished. The first time I was red and I lost regularly, second time I was yellow and I won after three moves, and this time I am red and the game is not finished yet (18th move). I first thought that he did not like playing red but he is also resigning when yellow against other players. During the third game (just after I won the second) I asked him why he had resigned, but he only answered “uh…“. So it is still a mystery for me.

  • UsEr_DaTa at 2008-10-27

What is so hard to understand ??He wants to have the most Tournaments wins , thats all, because when he have ratings on about 1500 he can play against not really hard players which he beats easily, and on half Tournaments he loses all games so his rating dont go to high

  • wccanard at 2008-10-27

“He wants to have the most Tournaments wins , thats all”

    Aah!

But why doesn't he want to have the highest rating, instead? Isn't that a better thing to have?

  • ypercube at 2008-10-27

    Better but more difficult :)

  • ypercube at 2008-10-27

With a lower rating, it's easier to win rated tournaments.

  • UsEr_DaTa at 2008-10-27

i am sure after he have the most Tour wins he will try to get high ranking

  • Greck at 2008-10-27

    what a silly thing :)

  • FatPhil at 2008-10-27

I'm curious how effective losing games is as a tactic for getting the most Tournament wins. He has to play twice as many, as he'll have to lose half of them!

    How silly indeed.

  • bloke at 2008-11-08

This one is an interesting game: koen won with a low ranking yet, regardless of the tough loss, gramiak's ranking did not drop at all. Does it mean they play on the same computer or only that they use the same isp?

  • Ja_mai_ca at 2008-11-08

It just mean you need glasses for your eyes , maybe you look once again on your link :D

  • bloke at 2008-11-08

All right, now I have my glasses on. You indeed have a drop in your ranking on September 25.

  • KPT at 2009-01-01

he said to me “it is an experiment”

maybe he was sarcastic (cause this thread)

    HEY KOEN

    THE PEOPLE ASK IT!!!!!

    GIVE US AN EXPLANATION!!

  • hoodiers at 2009-01-01

I think that he thinks that if he can't win the Montlycup round 1 that the games are unnecessary, so he give up. So he don't have many games to play, because he signs in every montlycup tournament.

  • Idno at 2009-01-06

lol lol lol :) WC canard told me to look here , now I know why I get so manny messages last couple days :)

First : sry for my bad english .

second: Ray Garrison is right , I did want to got to 1500 and get back to +2k.

I have a new goal now and no not most tournaments win cause I already win alot on jijbent.nl where I win also alot of tourn and my rating is very high .

    2400- 2525 .

my goal is : on jijbent I lose to manny games from lowrates and here I can train easily against them by let my rating low.

also I try to find new tactiks or just make my game better.

If i play on jijbent 1 mistake is enough to lose.

here I try to find new ways to don't make any mistakes.

PS Why didn't I tell it before all this. Cause then other people also do this

and I want to be 1 of a kind :) . last weeks I see somethimes I'm not the only

    1 doiing this.

and for the record no i'm not gramiak. he's alot better then me. I can't beat him here and also on itsyourturn.com

where I also play whit different nickname. just anonim :) Only a few people now does know my nick on jijbent.

sry If i did hurt some people :p and GL in 2009

  • KPT at 2009-01-06
