I'd expect there to be a big peak when schools and colleges go back, probably reaching 10000 October 24th

Now it looks like it will happen on the 3rd or 4th of December.

How many of them do you think are active players?

come to that, how many of them do you think are different players?

i'd estimate the number of different players could be as little as half the number of registered players

isn't there a forum post dealing with the problem of rank falling behind fast improving ability which recommended re-registering with a different starting rank? this does happen

re-registerig is also sometimes done by stronger players who mistakenly register at the default low grade because of ambiguity in the new user instructions - unfortunately stuff doesn't always (ever?) get proof-read by a native user of the language

and there's names i recognise from elsewhere of people who've registered, but have never played any games on LG (unless they've using another ID and are deliberately playing well below their normal strength)

tho personally i find this fascination for ascribing significance to base10 round numbers somewhat strange - if base60 is good enough to measure the when and where of things (time and space), then i don't see why it isn't good enough to be used for basic counting, regardless of the modal numbers of digits found on the front paws of humans

i blame it on Napolean Bonaparte, slavishly emulating his Roman heroes... ha! i ask you! how many famous Roman mathematicians are there? none! they were all too busy doing long divisions for their engineers so that bigger and better aqueducts could be built

whatever... i reckon that human nature being what it is, chances are the 10,000th registration will be from someone already playing on LG :)

How many are "active" players, how many are alto-egos and how many no longer play? Once registered does a player stay on the site forever? IMHO there should be a system whereby if someone has not logged on for say 3 months they should be deregistered. That way at least we know how much interest there really is. In my own experience I keep playing the same players in most of my games.

My estimate is that there are about 1000-2000 active players in the site. But I disagree on deleting anyone.

What if I take 1 4-month vacation in Hawaii? Or a 6-month job in Antarctica and my laptop freezes? Or a 2-year trip to Mars? Or a 20-years to A-Centauri?

I would love to play again as ypercube when I'm back - especially from the a-centauri. The aliens might have taught me some new hex tricks and maybe, maybe I win the 72nd hex championship :)

I'll tell you the truth :) ... the truth is that I've logged my second nick, as a 10000th player :) ... but I cant log-in :( ...

Cheers,

icob ;)

It would be good to have a flag on the player to see if it is inactive; like "On Vacation".

And maybe a Players(Active)/Games information: 10081(9000)/458120

How many players are on Littlegolem if the inactive (not played for six months fx) players are deleted? Just wondering!
