How can I start a Go rating game?

If I send an invitation to a player who is listed as "waiting player for new tournament" and this player joins an unrated game follows. Can it be turned to a rated game or do I have to tip anywhere when inviting?

The only way to play rated games, is to join in a tournament. You could try a rating tournament for a start.

In fact monthly cup is also not bad... it depends if you want to play only players in your range of the rankings or als others.
