A lot of time is lost by players only looking at this site once, getting into tournaments, and never come back. They get 30 days (of which 20 days of vacation). One suggestion was to give only 2 vacation days per month playing in the first 10 months. Another could be at most as much vacation days as days you actual played at little golem. In each case 20 is the upperbound, and it nice to have these vacation days.
I think 2 days vacation per month up to 20 days could be correct. The rules could be apllied every beggining of month if you have less than 20 vac. days, not only at the beggining of playing at Little Golem.
Some of us get more vacation time than you already allow. I've lost games only because I took vacation. And then there's the issue of business trips.
It would probably be better to count the logins for new people. After 5 or 10 logins, they get full priveleges.
How about the balance starts at some small number of days (5 or less). Then the number builds by 2 days per month to a maximum of 20. This would continue. This will yield 24 days a year but no more than 20 at one time. That should meet the needs our users without unduly delaying tournaments.
For new users, I don't think there should be any initial vacation days at all. If you have an actual vacation scheduled, one that will keep you away from a computer, then you should just sign up and start playing when you get back from your vacation. A new user signing up and then not making a move for a month is discouraging.
I agree. But on the other hand I would like to see that full vacation is given once the player has showed that he/she plays regularly. Say after one month. Too bad if you sign up in May and lose all games in July.
I see no reason why a player should not get all his quota at once.
I also dislike the idea of getting the 2 a month policy when you play longer, let's say after a year.... if you take a long holliday each year in july, and play all year long, it should be possible to not time-out!
I was trying to reduce the vaction days accounting to as simple an algorithm as possible. This will make the coding easier. Also, it answers the question of when you get the new days. All at once allows the possibility to have nearly 50 days before a game will time out.
No way, there is a simpler algorithm then yours, which gives you no 50 days possibility but it keeps to 30! I don't see any problem is giving a new vacation day exactly a year after the vacation day which falls away.
That seems other then the rule, I don't see why you would treat 1 january special (think of guys signing up december 3th). It also looks not simpler then the obvious idea of 'forgetting' all vacation days at least one year old.
I am sorry if I missed something here, but I dont find any information on how vacation days are incremented today. It only states each player has 20 vacation days. I suppose that is not meant to be 20 days for the lifetime so there should be a method to increment those days each year. I dont see any problem with players signing up in December. In the new year they will have 20 days like all other players.
It states you have 20 vacation days in one year! So in the year from today until August 23th next year I should have 20 days. WIth your proposal it would be only like this in real calendar years, so someone joining at December 2nd could 40 in a row, which is too much. Still I don't see why to get a artificial set back to 20 on so particular day, in stead of returning one day to the pool, a year after a certain vacation day is used.
Most people will ave their vacation during summer. If I had vacation in July this year and used all my vacation days it would be impossible for me to have vacation in June next year. I dont think this is how vacation days should work.
But may be I think too much as a European? People in the southern hemisphere probably have their vacation in december/january, so may be adding on Jan1 is not such a great idea after all. Comments are welcomed!
In the nothern hemisphere there might be wintersport freaks as well....
It might be interesting to think about regiving vacation days 10 months after they were used.
It is really a pain in the neck to have to wait 30 DAYS to win a game when the player has seemingly dropped out of Little Golem. If a player does not indicate he/she is on vacation, why automatically let him/her have vacation time after the 240 hours passed? I am in favor of vacation time, but I think the rules governing it have to be rethought.
If "indicate your vacation time" were something the user would be expected to do on this server, some people will forget to do it, or will not realize they should do it in the first place. Should they lose their games as a result? Based on my limited experience, most of the players who "drop off the radar" are those who make one or two moves in their first game(s) and then lose interest. I agree that vacation time should be initially withheld, until some threshold is passed such as going past move 3 in some game, or logging on x number of times, or something. Maybe instead of 20 days at the start of each year, give 1 day at the end of each 18 day period, to a maximum of 20 days.
I don't like 'indicate vacation time'... First of all it is annoying to calculate when games will trigger (It is possible that due to a first holliday your games are all around '80 hours' left, and 3 weeks later 2 games are still thus (if you play 70 games and in 2 of them the opponent is away as well, and then you have to gamble if you need vacation days for a 5 day- holliday). On the other hand it is possible that some situation calls you unexpected awauy from computers and you don't have to bother if you need to find one, much longer. The only problem is that 'drop-outs' should tell they are dropping out, which of course is very unlikely.
