I've thought Checkers for a while, but kept my mouth shut. However - though it IS a 'solved' game, it has been proven to be a DRAW with perfect play - and therefore, seems to me, that two players can still contest an enjoyable game of Checkers to see who has the 'least imperfect' play!
I've ALSO thought Stratego. Yes - I have played it on other sights (forget where). I've also downloaded the computer opponent 'Probe' - supposedly the champ, though I can beat it; haven't played at top levels, though.
Games that are cheat-proof by computer opponent would eliminate much of what we have here - so in that we've in many cases relied on 'the honor system', then I would think that policy would simply have to continue.
These are games I've played all my life, and would enjoy playing more. I'm really not that inclined, at this point in MY life, to learn new games; even if I DID learn the rules of new games, I would much rather spend the limited time I have putting effort into the intricacies of games I DO play - before I spend that time putting the effort into new ones. I'm not bored; yet. But then - that's ME.
I also rather enjoy Qubic - 3D Tic-Tac-Toe. This, TOO, is a 'solved game' - and in fact, proven to be a win for the first player. Traditional 'Connect-4' suffers the same problem, but a variant was devised to keep it competitive and new; perhaps there's some way to do that with Qubic?
Of course it's Richard's site. I'm delighted at all the efforts he has put forth to provide this playing forum for us folks, and naturally the decision making is his. But as Aaron says - we're just batting around suggestions here - it IS a 'forum', for cryin' out loud!
Another game I used to enjoy: 'Milles Bournes' (card game); also, I have this copy of 'Pan Kai' sitting here, but never played it (by Alex Randolf, the creator of Twixt); doesn't look that interesting, but might be fun to see if there's any true strategy to be found.
Oh, and there's strip poker - everybody has to upload jpegs of themselves in various states of undress to participate! Who's in??
