I tried to search it online but I can't find a solution.
Can someone please help me?
(i thought to post it here cause i noticed a lot of smart people in LG :D)
Problem:
Every time I edit a movie clip with windows movie editor, it crashes while i am trying to save it. (so it never really does save it)
I just thought it may be due to a default in windows movie editor, so I ignored it.
Few days back, I was making a file of .GIF format in photoshop cs4. I saved it as .psd format, however, while trying to save it as .gif, it crashes again (and does every time i try to save it)
Obviously, my computer does not let me edit or create any animation/movie files.
How to fix it?
Other info: I have windows vista, Dell Studio 14z Laptop(if u need more info, just let me know)
Try running the Memory Diagnostic Tool that comes with Vista. You should be able to get to it by searching for "memory" in the search bar in the start menu.
The two operations that crashes require a lot of memory, so if there is a problem with yours, it might crash the programs.
I do remember that Windows Movie Maker for Windows ME required there to be virtual memory enabled, even if you have tons of RAM and don't really need it.
When I editted or created an animation file through either ps4/Windows movie maker, I used to open the program through an already made .psd (.mp4, .avi, etc) file, which caused the crashing problem while i tried to save my work.
After, I opened the program directly (meaning, through .exe or the shortcut file) and it worked with no problems!
Also, I have no clue why the program crashes when opened indirectly and I am not sure if it is limited to few people for some specific reason or applied generally to everyone.
What you describe sounds more like a workaround than a solution. Windows is supposed to allow you to double click on a file and bring up the app which is designated for that file, with no problems. Maybe the problem lies with the app rather than Windows per se. I have the same problem with a couple apps I use, and to my shame I choose the workaround. The system has beaten me into submission.
The problem may also be created by an Antivirus program (they usually lie in the background and monitor file reads/writes and other behaviour). If the antivirus locks a file for more time than the application can handle, it may cause the application to crash.
Check if the crashes occur with the antivirus deactivated.
I believe its app's programmer to blame! Some programs won't even start at all when you double click on one of its files, even though they are correctly linked to them (that's at least SwissPerfect's case).
