I will be resigning all my games and leaving Golem. Its been a lot of fun, but i will not play when accused of being a computer program, bot or cheating.

I think people were thinking you were a bot because your handle waas Aaron_C and usually the C means "computer". I doubt anyone was accusing you, they just were misled by your handle. You may be over-reacting?

I agree with Ray's last sentence. As I recall the last forum conversation concerning this issue was rather tongue in cheek and I doubt anybody really thinks you are a bot. OneStone has certainly enjoyed its games with you!

Hello Aaron,

it seems I am one of the people who are responsible

for the/your situation. And I confess: I wanted to

make a joke of the "_c"-misunderstanding for some time.

Please, forgive me for making such things with you.

And, before making your final decision, please sleep

some more nights over it.

Ingo.

OneStone, if you keep speaking of yourself in the third person, people are going to think you're a bot.

#6 · FatPhil

22 Sep 2011

If your name was Aaron_C, then we may have assumed you were a bot, as Ray says - so if we'd have complained about anything we'd have been complaining that you were actually a human!

Gotta admit, OneStone_c's markov model in English is suspiciously good...

OK, I'm finally trustworthy and can stop posting under wanderer_c and OneStone_c. Yes, MG and FP, OneStone_c is a EWN bot but I would speak for it in the posts.

A lot of OneStone_c's games were against Aaron. I appreciated the fact that Aaron was willing to play so much against OneStone_c and I hope he decides not to leave and keeps exercising the bot.

Aaron, first of all, whoever accuses you of being a bot is probably dumb. You have been playing too many different games. Bots usually play one or two games where they manage to be rather good at. (No offense meant but your max of all games is a lousy 1700 at Twixt and that is no sign of you being a bot or a cheater, more like a sign for the opposite.)

Second, do you really get offended so easily? Someone, on some other corner of the planet said something about you that is not true (like the cheating accusation) and you decide to leave this wonderful site? Ignore him, sue him, put his name here in the clear and force him prove the accusations. You could even add him to your blacklist (so no more messages you receive from him)! But leave LittleGolem? Too many good games to lose by leaving. You should ashamed feel of thinking that...

Third, well, I'll leave my third comment for later. I hope it won't be needed and you change your mind.

*wistfully* _I_'d like to be a bot when I grow up some day.

Aaron, I don't know if anyone's been teasing you in private messages, all I've seen is posts on the forum. And not one of them looked like it was at all meant to be taken seriously. I don't accuse of of being a bot. But I do think you're making a big to-do out of absolutely nothing and, perhaps intentionally and perhaps not, getting a whole lot of attention for yourself. If it's not intentional and you're so hurt that you do leave, I hope you better calibrate your sensitivity to perceived slights in order to more comfortably get along in whatever other environments you choose.

I won't give out names because its pointless to argue with a keyboard. I do not like being accused of cheating, i play my games straight, fair and serious. Once someone has been openly accused of cheating, it is especially harder to prove other wise over the internet. It goes for every aspect of life, no one likes being accused of something they did not do.

You can't take such things seriously in the world wide web... just look at comments to a youtube video, accusing someone to be a cheater is nice compared to some comments. Some people always want to see you fail, do you really want to give them the satisfaction by quitting lg? Ignoring is mostly the best thing... "don't feed the troll" ... it isn't fun to tease someone if he shows now reaction.

I just clicked on this forum and read this thread. I have no clue what the dust-up is all about, but I do know this. Just play your game Aaron, and disregard the BS. Rise above it..and move on. Case closed.

Additionally, if I change my name to iwin C, did I just become a computer?? Wow, I'm feelin' the power already... now I'm really, really, really....no really..... smart!

This line should fix the problem:

Aaron, anywhere you go there are going to be a few bad eggs. Don't let them get you down.

bots take thefun out of real games anyway.I still think cheating(bots)are a hollow victory.what place do they have here really?

#21 · Dvd Avins

23 Sep 2011

Sadly, I think erratic's sort of jocularity is what Arron perceives as an accusation.

#23 · Felipe Herman van Riemsdijk

Using a computer to play, is far different thne cheating anyway, in "postal" games the computer it's a tool, and can be used, it help's greatly one that is studying either the game played or IA and programming, I myself intent to create a go bot for (for IA sutdying ^^)LG one of this days, but it will still take a while =/

Aaron Coombs: If you are seriously quitting because of the bot thing then you are really a doofus with 0 sense of humor (sorry if I sound harsch but I am being quite sencere). You have played several thousand games on this site over multiple years I guess and suddenly you quit because someone thought you were a bot because of your name? It just doesn't add up.

I think you will quit since your statement seems to absolute, but I don't buy the reason. It may be personal or whatever. It is really none of my business. So I wish you luck in your future endeavours. You were always nice to talk to and we had some nice games.

See you.

#25 · JerNYC

24 Sep 2011

How can he possibly be a bot? He's got a losing record in almost all of his games. He would be the worst bot ever.

#26 · FatPhil

24 Sep 2011

JerNYC - you've clearly never played dots and boxes against RoRoRo! (He still doesn't have either lookahead at all, or a board evaluation function - it's a wonder he ever wins at all!)

#27 · Aaron Coombs

26 Sep 2011

Could the loosing streak you speak of, be the result of me resigning close to 300 games in the last few days? Granted i did have a lot of lost games, but last few months i have been bringing my win/loss ratio to better numbers.

#28 · Aaron Coombs

26 Sep 2011

I don't know of anyone that likes to be called a cheater.

#29 · Robert Irvin

26 Sep 2011

If you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough!

#31 · pfafulous

26 Sep 2011

Clearly Aaron has no interest in discussion on the topic, as he doesn't seem to have actually read and processed what was said to him. Oh well, thanks for playing.

re:

Felipe Herman van Riemsdijk

yes we all know that but as i said what play does it have here?

what mean is that the study of your coding is fine..and enlightening.

but its use here in a place were it is supposed to be among human opponents.is unquestionably cheating..and spoils any real victory for all.I think the use of bots is inconsiderate.you realize I understand(have been online with computers & code since 73) but feel the use of bots should in their own games.

#33 · FatPhil

26 Sep 2011

As yet, we've seen no actual evidence of an *accusation* of him being a cheater.

In the absense of that, I can throw a temporary accusation of being a loon into the mix to fill the void.
