The wordlist used here is ENABLE. Negro is not in that list. You will not find negro as a word if you make a search at scrabble.com either.

Negro is indeed in my Scrabble dictionary but its starts with a capital (N) - So its invalid.! ---- BTW, U will come across what u know as a perfectly good words that will not be valid.! Saying that, wait until u come across a very obscure word that even dictionary.com doesn't list, now thats really annoying. LOL

The problem is probably that it is a Spanish word and scrabble.com,etc.,are usually going to only be for words in English.

Negro is not listed in my 2nd edition or 3rd edition of the Scrabble Player's Dictionary. It is also, as mentioned earlier, not listed in the Enable dictionary. This is probably, as my mom pointed out, because it is slang! The full word is negroid and negroid IS a valid word.

Guess we win some and lose some. My friend found it listed in her Webster's Dictionary.

Hmm... surely entrail is a word though? It's on dictionary.com, for example, as a perfectly normal word.

(my point is that entrail is not accepted by Golem's word game)

Interesting. I don't think I've ever heard or read "entrail" in the singular.

Karen,
calm down. No dictionary can be perfect.
And only way how implement such word game is to use some dictionary. And ENABLE one free dictionary. So this dictionary is part of rules. If you don't like these rules you have not to play this. And no one forces you not to use non dictionary words in speech.
I think that GWG rules are really well playable.
One other note:
It is very difficult to learn which word is foreign and which can be considered as English. As the speech is changing even dictionaries are changing but slowly. I don't know your rejected words.
For me "negro" is perfectly correct Spanish word and means "black" in English. I know it can be used in English as very peiorative word for "blackman". So I can believe that this is the reason why it is not in Scrabble and so in GWG dictionary.
And another note:
I've read about very open tournament in Czech Scrabble, where was possible any existing forms of words, also dialectic, vulgar, etc. words. But that was VERY unusual ruleset.

BTW on www.scrabble.com you can choose U.S. and Canada or rest of the world.
In the U.S. there "negro" isn't correct word. In the rest of the world page there is a CHAMBERS Scrabble Wordchecker and it consider correct "negro" and even "blanco".
So correctness of word really much depend on chosen ruleset.

Just so non-native speakers don't get the wrong idea, "negro" is considered pejorative, until about 30 years ago it was considered the standard, non-offensive term. It's the distortion of that term, "nigger" that was and is (under most circumstances) considered extremely offensive.
And "negro" wasn't slang. If one were to follow consistant rules of capitilization, it would be excluded for that reason, but in practice it wasn't usually capitalized, I think.
