It may be correct. With you having a higher rating, and the other person having a lower rating, your rating does not move up very much. And as you have more games completed, the less your rating will move. -------------------------- So it is possible (since you have 300+ gwg complete), that your rating moved from 1628.10 to 1628.88 - or something like that - and since it does not show the .XX number, it looks like it stayed the same. ((I'm just guessing, so I might be wrong)) BBW

When I beat a player who is new (1500) I don't get any points either.

See http://www.gamerz.net/pbmserv/ratings.html . . . . I quote a piece of it here: "If you're playing a provisional player, the factor K is scaled by n/20, where n is the number of games your opponent has played. So, as in the provisional case, if you play an opponent who has never played, your rating can't change."

But, Scot, since on this site incoming players may choose their starting rating [in chess, at least], does that not throw somewhat of a monkey wrench into the validity of the ratings on LG? John Beginner might be full of himself and start with a 2100 rating. Jane Master might begin at 1000 [and take dozens and dozens of games to get to her correct rating, which will be the subject of another topic]. With only one or two such cases, of course, there will not too many inaccurate ratings. But, imagine what will happen if this example of John and Jane happens dozens and dozens of times? I realize I am only scratching the surface of possibilities, but I want this to be a message, not a treatise.

It doesn't appear Richard uses a provisional rating system at all. Just established, slow-moving ratings.
