Almost the same problem with the chess ratings. Three of the four "rated" at 2100 have yet to make a move in a rated game. Yet, those three are among the top ten.
Yet Florish, with a record of +61 = 7 ZERO losses is only at 1772. With the current rating system means is that if Karpov or Krammik or Kasparov or Take Your Pick Super Grandmaster joined and started at 1000, that Super GM would be rated at only 1850 or so after 68 games of no draws, no losses chess.
A little absurd, no?
I suggest that, unless someone has a FIDE Title, we all start at 1500 and let the wins and draws show the true rating, not just that person's personal belief of his/her skills.

You are right, it has no sense to have a list of top players if most of them haven't make any move yet. But the solution is simple, players on the list should have finished at least 20 or 30 games.
The suggestion that we all start at the same rating is o.k., we can do it. But what I liked on this site was the possibility that from beginning I could play with approximately equal strong players as me. If everebody starts at the same level, then I'll have to play many games with much stronger or much weaker players than me at the beginning (and I don't like it)
Now one remark to chess: It is true, that here are several very strong players, whose rating doesn't respond to their strenght at all. I asked one of these players why did he choose rating 1000 and his answer was that he likes to have the feeling that he has earned high rating. I think that everybody can choose (in chess and go) rating at the begining which responds to his strenght, if some players want to begin at 1000 and play a lot of (already at the beginning won) games with beginners it is their choice....
And one more remark: it doesn't matter how high is rating on sites like this one here, important is to have fun :)

I agree totally with Petr! I think the rating in chess is absurd. Just put players on the ratinglist after they have played a number of rated games (10, 20 or 30). Some players have not played a single game and are still ranked among the top ten! In Dvonn one does not get into the list until one has finished the first game.
