I propose a new game for this site, Blokus. Has anyone heard of it? The rules are very simple, it's easy to learn but difficult to master, so an excellent choice for Little Golem. Played by 2 players or (also interesting) 4 players. It can be played against the computer on http://jeuxfun.goa.com/jeux_online/Blockus/blokus_applet.asp, which is in french; for info in english see http://faidutti.free.fr/jeux/articles/blokus/blokus.html or http://www.kumquat.com/cgi-kumquat/funagain/13286

I played the game with the applet (or better: the applet played with me :-). It looks like a good game!

A couple of weeks (months?) ago, there was a poll for a new game. Does anybody know what the outcome was? If the webmaster is already working on the winner of that poll, suggestions like this one will have to wait for the next round... :-)

And the copyright for this game? It is allowed to be implemented freely on the site?

I haven't checked on blokus, yet, but it sounds good if it can be played by 4 people.

What I would consider a nice game for this site would be either a game which allows for more than 2 opponents or a game that is not "full information" like all there are now. Of course that would pose extra implementation problems to Richard in preparing the tournaments tables, the ratings change, etc.

Not to mention a game that combines both like bridge. That would be a challenge. I don't mean that I would like playing bridge here, there are so many places on the net to play that.

Thanks again, Richard, for the wonderful site. The charts are just beautiful. Are you a mind reader also? I was just thinking of writing a forum post about how nice it would be to see a rating history somehow and, pop, the charts were there.

There's just one problem with Blokus. It isn't Twixt. :-)

There is another problem with game where play more players (more than two). What happen if some player stop play ? For poker it is easy (other players continue play), but for other games it is problem.

How about game over and declare the players that are left as winner? Just the same rule as if this situation happends in a two-player game.

In a two-player game, it's also possible to have multiple winners (a draw). I don't see where the problem is.

A draw is not a win. On this server, a draw gives you one tournament point, and a win gives you two points. One or more of the remaining players may object to getting one point instead of two, just because one player dropped out. In a tournament, players in other games may object to awarding two points to each of the remaining players in a game where one player dropped out. After all, the players in other games had to work hard for their score, and these players get two points just because one of the four quit? Any way you do it, terminating the game is bound to displease someone.

I'm not convinced that a game where someone quits will be always distressing to the remaining players. If the game can be continued, it won't be. Perhaps we could have a 2-1-0 points awarded to winner, second and third in every game.
