En passant is a standard rule of western (meaning "non-Asian") chess.
It's actually not too complicated, if it's phrased well. When a player moves a pwn two spaces, his opponent may for the next move only pretend that the pawn moved only one square if that would allow him to cature the pawn with another pawn.
To remember the rule, it may help to know how it came about. In general, a pawns on adjacent files can't bypass each other without giving at least one side the opportunity to capture. The introduction of the 2-space move about 500 years ago changed that. It gave the restrained side the cahnce to jump past the restraint. The en passant rule restores the original ability of one pawn to restrain another.
In the future it would probably be better to as questions that pertain to only one game in forum for that particular game.
