I'm quitting Little Golem after my current games are played out because of the ads.
While I dislike ads as much as the next guy, I recognize that advertising pays the way for many of the things I enjoy from magazines, to television, to web sites. However, when the advertising reaches a level of offensiveness, I'm not willing to put up with it.
The cigarette ad and the Russian bride ad are just too much. I sure hope Little Golem is making lots of bucks from these ads - because it is going to be losing players.
I haven't noticed the cigarette ad. I do find the Russian brides one offensive, but not enough to deter me from playing here.
I use Windows. If I did find the ads seriously troubling, I would create a resizable window with "always on top" set, and place it over the ads, which always appear in the same place on my screen. This way I could use LG as usual, but without ever seeing the ads. I don't know if this trick can be done for other OSs.
I just saw an ad of something big, which was offered for free. I think not being able to control the banners is a problem for littlegolem.
Personally, I don't mind those big free things much, but a game site like this should be open for people of all ages with all kinds of backgrounds. And with uncontrollable ads, it isn't. Perhaps you can find another banner-ring, Richard. I realise that the chess-clock factory doesn't pay as much as those big free.. well, you know what, but it is a game site... Not an adult site.
I can only imagine what the end of those 'big free' comments was (what with me being a youngster and all) but my imagination is quite good enough to guess that we didn't want the add here.
Most of the adds I see are for Little Golem, which seems odd.
Also, in Hex you can't scroll down until the ad is off the page as the board is too small.
I do not remember seeing any ads here at all. Perhaps it is game dependant.
More likely it is because I use Adsubtract, a shareware program that blocks most banner ads once it is setup.
It loads on my PC at boot, I do have to ascknowledge it by telling it that I do not wish to buy the upraded version at this time. A simple mouse click and I dont get bothered very often at anysite.
I do not understand how these ads are working?? Sometimes, when I'm logged on, I never get to see any ads at all except those for Little Golems own games and sometimes it is just different ads all the time. I would think that Richard is not in control of what is popping up as ads, or?
Thank you, Richard! If you were looking for promotion via the ad-ring, perhaps all us players can help out by putting banners or links on our web pages. I'd be happy to.
