It's short for Sonnenborn-Berger, which is a tie-break system. If you finish with the same basic tournament socre as someone else, then for timebreaks you multiply the scores of all the people you beat by 2 (and for games other than hex, where ties are possible, you add the socres of everyone you tied multiplied by 1). The sum is listed hear as SON.

This system is also known as SoDOS, for Sum of Defeated Opponents' Scores.

as for games on this server, it isn't possible to tie in amazons either.

Nor is a tie in Go possible, with the komi set at 6.5

SON is for ties in a tournament, not in a game. Any game can have players tie in a tournament....

We all (I presume) knew that, Xander. But in my earlier post I was disoriented and thought I was posting in the Hex forum. Since I was explaining the Sonnenborn-Berger system in details, I mentioned ties in a game. Since ties can't occur in Hex, I referred to the generic 'games other than Hex' where ties can occur. As others have noted, there are other games (including, BTW, Go 13x13 and Go 9x9, which have non-integral komi other than 6.5) which cannot have ties.

Tie's in Go.
It is true that a scored game cannot end in a tie, but a game of Go can still end in a tie with ethernal ko's.
