After my game Amazons 55988 against Jinny her rating dropped from 1500 to 1492 while my rating 1664 remained unchanged. Why? It was not her first game, but only a coincidence that her rating had changed to the beginner's level. Rating is not important in itself, I am just curious to grasp how the system works.
And since this is my first posting in the forum, I would like to say hello to everybody here, and to tell you all how much I admire Little Golem and how much I enjoy playing here. Thanks to Richard and to all those who help developing and maintaining this wonderful site!
That was Jinny's first RATED game. Only tournament games are rated here. Your win over her didn't say very much about your rating, but her loss to you said rather more about hers.
There has been some debate as to what sort of rating system is used here. Is it a "Glicko" type system, where besides a rating value, each player also has a "deviation" value (not shown to the public) which indicates to some extent how accurate the rating is? Or do players get provisional ratings for the first N games, with the proviso that their rating cannot go down when they win a game?
