Greetings. I'm not sure I fully understand how the tournament time limit works here. Would someone please take a moment and explain it to me? Thanks.

In fact a lot of forum talk has been about this. I'll try to explain the idea. You get 240 hours to move which counts down (in all games by the way). When you move during that time, let's say after 60 hours (180 left), then 36 hours are added (back on 216 hours). This can't get above 240 (actually it can, but that is due to the next rule). If you don't move in time in one game, the computer automatic triggers a 'vacation' days. you have 20 vacation days (a year). At that moment all games get additionly 24 hours to their time. You don't need to announce these vacation days before, it just happens. I know it is a lot at once. You can check the time left on the page of the game.

Because of this 'Vacation rule', it would be nice if one could se how much vacation someone has left. And I don't mean how much I have left. Then one could see 'when' a game will finish. As it is now, I don't have a clue to how many days it's going to linger in my games list.

I'm wondering how many people feel 240 hours to make a move, and 20 vacation days a year, are BOTH a little high. I know I do. If it were my choice I would cut down on each of them, in an effort to speed up some of the games a little bit. (200 hours + 14 vacation days?)

The vacation days are nice for when one is actually taking vacation or sick, etc. I wouldn't want
to see those decreased.

Yes, but if you're going to be away from home, on a vacation, you'll probably make a move in your games just before you leave. So then, even if your opponent responds immediately, you'll have your normal 10 days before you have to respond again. That's a long vacation right there for some people! My vacations, usually last just a week! I could make a move, take a vacation, come back, and still be working on my normal 240 hours. And to have an extra 20 days after that? 30 days? Who takes 30 day vacations?

I guess I'm used to other turn-based sites where the time between moves is not so long.

I don't think that 20 vacation days are too much. This summer I'll have 30 days of vacation.

I see your point, Edward. It seems reasonable to shorten the number of hours per move, but I'd
still want to keep 20 vacation days. I am going to take about 30-45 days off next year, but I am aiming to not
have any games going during that time.
It really has only been a problem for me with a couple of players, anyway. Everyone else seems to
respond within one or two days.

240 hrs + 20 might be slow for people that have a computer at home all the time and are themselves not often outdoors, for other people it is just reasonable. I would suggest a changes in the system (read the threath 'tournament speed up suggestions' for some good ideas).

I'm on 3 hollidays of more then a week... in 2 months, I can't get all my games back to 240 between them, because of other slow players (for some reason I will trigger vacation days in games the other player moves less). It's a turn based site, so it is slow.
