It seems Shogi and Mini-Shogi share ratings... that makes no sense, they are very different games!

Further more, for the sake of tradition, Shogi ratings should also be presented as kyos and dans. BTW, it seems to me that go on different board sizes also shares ratings.

... while Othello 8x8 and 10x10 has different ratings - I would argue those share much more the same skills than go 9x9 and 19x19 does or shogi and minishogi does.

This general principle has been discussed a lot in the forums. You can look it up for details, but the short version is that Richard was planning several versions of various games here. For example any size board for various games. And having one rating for size 18 GO and one rating for size 19 GO and so on makes less sense than having one combined rating. I'm not sure why ratings for Hex and Reversi are not combined yet, though. I believe he planned to combine them, but for some reason didn't. Maybe he's postponing it for when new game variants for Hex and Reversi arise; I don't know. The combined rating for Go came approximately at the same time as the Toroid version of GO, if I remember correctly.

He mentioned somewhere that there was a technical problem in combining the Hex and Reversi ratings. So, I guess that's why they there were left separate.
