I can't castle in my 960 game.

Not that I'd necessarily want to, but I tested whether I could castle in this position and the interface won't let me. I didn't try typing g8-g8 in the URL. I should be able to 0-0, leaving my king on g8 and having my rook move from h8 to f8.

Did you put your king on the rook? If so then I have no idea.

Your link won't work for other users rather than you.

My previous message was obviously ment as "@somar96". I've just perceived that in this game, where I should be able to castle queenside (0-0-0) this option is not avaiable to me.

I still can't castle in this game. I'm still not sure I want to, but I'm not playing in the game for now, because I might. When I try manually changing the move= parameter in the URL to "0-0" I get an error.

I see a new 'button' to choose now; a text, below the board, which reads 0-0 or 0-0-0, and it does the castling. try that!

not sure what I'm missing, but I'd think I should be able to castle in this game, actually both ways. Neither rook nor the king have been moved, no check or such, so why not? (I'm black)

Can someone enlighten me?

i wonder if now, instead of text button at bottom, one castles by clicking on king, as in conventional chess?

I think your knight at g8 prevents you from castling to the king side, and rook at d8 to the queen side. (King's and rook's new positions after the castling will be the same as in the normal chess.)

Micco, interesting idea. I'll try to find out, if I come later to move either one.

Correct. Castling for Black is illegal in that position.

Why not get rid of the stupid castling move, which only makes the rules more complicated and causes problems like this.

Rule proposal:

The white King is initially placed onto one of the columns a, b or c, and both rooks to the right of the King (from white's view). And there is no castling move.

Knowing where the kings are from the first move would make for a much more attacking and less flexible opening development strategy.

That would not be chess 960 anymore.

@Dvd Avins: This is a point I didn't think about. But couldn't it be also seen as an advantage if the game is more attacking? OTOH it might increase the first-move-advantage of white...
