The games here are scored by Japanese rules: territory + prisoners, which is fine, but the message at the end of a game replaces the word territory by area. This is wrong. The word area has a specific meaning in go scoring, namely territory + live stones, which is used in Chinese rules (prisoners are ignored). Confer Sensei's Library

No need to count prisoners seems best

I believe territory scoring is more or less the standard all over the world except China, Taiwan and New Zealand(?), although I don't personally mind area scoring. My issue here is with the wrong use of the word "area", not the scoring itself.

Tasmanian Devil is correct, LG uses a "Territory Scoring" system of counting the score.

And therefor Little Golem should use the correct term "territory" (and NOT "area").

...

For those who don't know the difference:

With Territory Scoring rules (aka Japanese rules and Little Golem rules):

  • No points are gained by playing Dame, and

  • Playing inside your own territory reduces your score. (It covers an empty/territory point.)

Compare the above with:
Area Scoring rules (aka Chinese rules - and also with American Go Association rules and New Zealand rules):

  • Playing on a Dame point is worth a point (it expands the area of your group).

  • Playing inside your own area/territory does NOT affect the score of the game.

For the majority of Go games the result of who wins the game would be the same under all rule sets; except maybe in the games in which a large seki occurs < see: https://senseis.xmp.net/?Seki for more info on seki situations and score counting >
