I can't find the answer to my question (regarding ascending order): who wins if nobodo connects and there is no exmty hex? I though it's the same as in line variant (last to place wins), but it turns out it isn't (I lost such a agme a few minutes ago). What counts then? Who placed more hexes?

what happen to that specific game? As I see it, the board is full so the game has ended. Who has connected three sides? MarleysGhost. So, who wins? MarleysGhost.

I didn't notice it actually. But why did it allow me to play my last move then? Shouldn't it show "+" in the notation and not allow me to play? Ir is it just in line variant?

There are currently many variations of WYPS, in some of the the winner is declared only when the board is full. In these variations you can connect three sides but your opponent break that winning chain and, in the end, win!

In some other variations it just work different. Still, I am not sure which work under which rules, because the rules are not clearly stated in a centralized way...

Yes, that was my problem ;)

I bought a WYPS set (French one) for my sister's Xmas present, but she can't read English so I prepare to translate the rule into French.

Does anyone know if it exists somewhere or want to check my translation?

Do you know how to play other variants with the WYPS set (ascending, line... ?)

In what order are the letters in the reck placed to the playable stones? That's important because an 's' gives the opponent the opportunity of simply copying a word with adding an 's' in many occasions....

Is there a comprehensive list of rules and variants? Here's what I found, and that's after clicking on Tournaments > WYPS > Rules > second link (first is broken).

...

Variants

On LG is implemented:

Arithmetic sequence. Game is played with numbers 0-9. Accepted are arithmetic sequences (0-1-2, 2-4-6-8, 1-4-7) or set of the same numbers (5-5, 7-7-7).

Prime number. Game is played with numbers 0-9. Accepted are all primes: 2,3,...97,...,3533,...,27644437,...

(So for all my WYPS-Ascending, since these were the number-based LG-variants listed, it made sense to me that it was the arithmetic sequence, since those ascend. Nothing else is listed. Needless to say, my opening strategies were wrong in all my games.)

...

Game Play:

4. The first player to connect all three sides of the board wins.

(So now I'm wondering why I haven't won this game, since I've gone two moves now with all three sides connected. Do we need to fill the board? Where is this written? This game variant isn't even mentioned in the rules.)

yes, the board have to be filled.

I don't know if it is written officialy anywhere. Regarding the rules, WYPS is a complete mess :)

I also can find no mention anywhere of this "locking" of opponent's tiles, which again greatly affects strategy.

I know this is a lot of whinging for a free site, but damn this is frustrating to be given a ruleset and then have to discover through trial and error that none of the rules apply.

Okay, thanks.

Anything else I should know? I know my strategy sucks even based on the rules I thought existed, but it's hard to even get started when every time I turn around there's a new rule, or the game doesn't behave as advertised.
