Why isn't anyone commenting on this tournament? Is the political climate too depressing?

Maybe Twixt takes all our free time and there's none left for talking about it :-) Korubko beat me so baaaad.

Yah, he kicked my ___! But I'm giving tasuki a tough time and I can't finish last, so I guess I'm happy :-/

And I feel so wrong of being in the first league. What am I doing here?

I posted an answer on the servegame site. In brief, 32.T14 33.K17! is a nasty shot. This shot is possible because I was not able to play K14 double linking earlier in the game, because I misread the battle in the top center. So I paid the price on the bottom. PLEASE add any variations that you may have a question about. As a general rule, when you paste a variation into the comment box, include the vertical bar from the beginning of the variation. It also helps to include text between variations posted in the same comment.

I don't understand why Alan Hensel vs spd_iv was a draw. As far as I can tell, White can not stop both of Black's threats to connect at P9 and Q10 in one move.

It doesn't look like a Twixt tourney with two draws in it! This is the first time that has ever happened, even counting monthlies and ratings tournaments. There have been Championships with more than one draw, but only in different groups.

I wonder if that's indicative of the level of play improving.

As for myself, it might as well be the other way around.

But you've only gone down 32 points, tasuki. In ELO ratings, that's almost nothing. You can make that back in 2 games. Heck, you can make *most* of it back if you beat spd_iv ;-)

As for my level of play, that has nothing to do with ELO - in a small and closed ecosystem like this one, weird things can happen to one's ELO rating. It's just that I feel I wasn't playing that good in some of the games. (I'm not talking about my game against CSM, he played well and deserved at least the draw)

Thanks! I simply followed the victory strategy that tasuki and korubko used in the last 2 championships: First, lose a quick one to David Bush ;-)

On 2010-08-01, when there were 6 games left, RoRoRo calculated the probability of a tie at almost 13%, but in the end, everybody got a different number of points (a first for Level 1 Twixt Championships), and a different number of Son points.

In the absence of draws, there will be people with the same number of points (not necessarily involving the winner), unless there are no 2's below the diagonal in the table.

As for my game with David... don't do 1.b7! It felt extraordinarily weak. It seems to have little or no offensive or defensive value in ladder chases. 1.b6 and 1.b5 seem much better, though still on the weak side.
