Everybody who wants to discuss their games is welcome. The idea is to make a team with players that can invite each other for such special training games with discussion afterwards or during the game if it is unrated. If we post these games here in the forum we should get a nice collection of games with valuable comments. (I know you can't see the lg comments, the important ones can be copied to the commentator afterwards)
We could also divide the team in 2 groups and then play a game against each other where we discuss every move in the forum and then the group votes which one they want to play, I think many players could learn something from that, but we would need a more relaxed time management for the games then.
Btw. I am skipping the next championship but you can invite me for a training game.
is there a minimumrating to join? I love the paralel line-shapes the 1700-1800 players often play, i have no idea what the 1800+players are thinking...
There is no minimum. I send you an invitation if you want to join. It might be better if the players in the training games have about the same rating, then the games are more interesting. If the players have a low rating, a better player can comment after the game if they want that, but I think it's also interesting WHY low rated players play certain moves, not only the ideas of the high rated players, you can learn from everyone, suddenly you see a new approach.
Maybe we could ask Richard to implement row handicapping for unrated Twixt games. This is a great way for players of different strengths to both enjoy a challenging game. The smallest handicap is to dispense with the swap rule. Beyond that, the handicap receiver moves first without swap and has border rows which are N rows closer than the opponent. For example, move plus 6 rows would be on a board 24 wide and 18 high. If this becomes popular on LG, then some statistical analysis might determine what handicap would be appropriate for what ratings difference, and maybe then handicap games could be rated.
Unrated handicap games are implemented on Gamerz. My handle there is chmeee with 3 e's. I welcome all challenges, but please no more than one rated (i.e. non-handicap) game at a time per opponent. If you want a handicap, choose whatever you want, but please list yourself as moving first, and make sure the handicap is for the first player.
Handycap: Yes I know, but I am not such a big fan of handycapped games any more. Sure it makes it more interesting for the better player, but I feel it's like playing and hoping the opponent makes a mistake, I prefer to play an unrated game and give some hints during play, so that the weaker player doesn't make any obvious mistakes.
Gamerz: That's great! We could play a game there with 2 groups. Move cycle would be 1-2 weaks, so the groups have at least 1 weak to discuss and vote about the next move. David you wanna join? You could be one of the movemakers :)
"movemaker" does that mean I listen to everyone else's advice then I go and make whatever move I want :-)
Sure I'll join Philosophers, thanks, and sorry for the OT drift. I misunderstood what teams were all about.
Regarding this move discussion within a team, what do you think about mailing a Jtwixt file between members? All comments and variations could be combined into a single file for that game. That way, we could work out disagreements. But of course opening moves may come down to personal preference.
Yes that with Jtwixt is a good idea too. We can post a picture and a link to a text file after every move, so everybody knows what we were talking about afterwards.
Now we just need some more players who want to join a group. Don't worry if you have a low rating, your vote counts as much as everyone's.
:) David, if we do it like this we don't need a 'movemaker', but you could be the coach of a group. The coach can suggest some moves after the opponent moved, the group doesn't need to chose one of them, but it's a good starting point for weaker players (and the discussion), I was completely lost at the opening as beginner myself.
