Jonesing for a virtual board now that Alan's site has problems?

You can download the JTwixt jar file here.

Please let me know if you have any difficulty getting this to work.

You should be able to use this tool with size 24 and 30 LG games. Click on the TXT link on the page for that game and save the file on your machine. Then within Jtwixt, in the Misc menu, choose Import, select the LGSGF format, and import from file. Then you can save the file from the File menu.

The max size for Jtiwxt is 36. For 48, my best suggestion is to analyze a 36x36 region of the board, which you would have to enter the position for manually. I could try to help you with that.

I also recommend that, once you have imported the file, go to Misc -> UI and select DB (that's me.) Then go to Board menu and choose outline player 1.

What a mess! But it should work. This tool is NOT an engine. It remembers the entire tree of variations you choose to explore. You can label the leaf nodes as winning, advantage, tie, disadvantage, and losing, and the app will adjust the evaluation of all the other nodes accordingly.

When saving a file within Jtwixt, I recommend the extension .tgt (Twixt game tree.) This distinguishes it from the .tsgf extension for the text file from Little Golem.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested, but here is a workaround for LG games where swap was played.

Jtwixt ignores the swap move. The resulting position is reflected across the main diagonal and colors are reversed compared to how the game is shown on LG. You can at least restore the image to the same orientation as LG, if you edit the text .tsgf file before you import it. Here is an example of the first two moves:

;b[if];r[swap]

Change this to

;b[fi];r[fi]

Transpose the letters in the first move, and copy that into the second move, replacing swap. The colors will still be reversed, but you can choose whatever colors you want within Jtwixt. Just remember to save your preferences.

I welcome all criticism of Jtwixt. Tell me how I can make it better. Someone already gave me lots of suggestions in an earlier thread. Sorry I don't know where that is.
